Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya – Luxor East Bank
The day begins during your Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya journey by visiting the magnificent East Bank of Luxor, home to two of ancient Egypt's most astonishing and largest temple complexes that have captivated visitors for millennia. Begin at the colossal Karnak Temple, the world's largest ancient religious site covering over 200 acres and representing over 2,000 years of continuous construction by successive pharaohs from the Middle Kingdom through the Ptolemaic period, each ambitious ruler adding their own distinctive architectural contributions to glorify the gods. During your Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile cruise, walk through the breathtaking Great Hypostyle Hall featuring an incredible forest of 134 towering columns reaching up to 23 meters high with massive capitals wide enough to hold 50 standing people, each intricately carved with thousands of hieroglyphs and colorful reliefs depicting elaborate religious rituals, triumphant pharaonic victories, and divine offerings that once blazed with vivid paint, along with the sacred lake measuring 120 by 77 meters where priests performed daily purification ceremonies, soaring granite obelisks including one standing 29 meters tall weighing 323 tons transported from Aswan quarries over 200 kilometers away, and multiple sanctuaries dedicated to the powerful Theban triad of Amun-Ra the supreme king of gods, his divine consort Mut, and their son Khonsu the moon god. Continue to the magnificent Luxor Temple built by famously brilliant and powerful pharaohs including Amenhotep III and Rameses II, connected to Karnak by the recently restored 2.7-kilometer Avenue of Sphinxes featuring over 1,000 sphinx statues, featuring its grand entrance pylon adorned with scenes of military campaigns, colossal statues, and the remaining 25-meter obelisk becoming even more magical when beautifully illuminated at night. Have lunch and dinner with the most astonishing Nile scenery as you dock for the night aboard your Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya.

Begin at the Valley of the Kings, the sacred burial ground where 63 tombs of pharaohs from the Eighteenth, Nineteenth, and Twentieth Dynasties were meticulously carved deep into limestone hills, including the world-famous tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62) discovered nearly intact in 1922 containing over 5,000 artifacts and his iconic solid gold death mask weighing 11 kilograms, and the magnificent tomb of Seti I featuring some of the finest and most beautifully preserved royal tomb paintings ever created, with vibrant colors depicting elaborate religious ceremonies and the king's journey through the underworld. Continue to the breathtaking Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, one of ancient Egypt's most powerful female pharaohs who ruled for 22 years, rising majestically in three colonnaded terraces carved dramatically into limestone cliffs showcasing her successful trade expeditions to the Land of Punt and architectural genius. Marvel at the towering Colossi of Memnon, two massive quartzite statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III standing over 18 meters tall, silently guarding the Theban necropolis for over 3,400 years.
