Itinerary

4 Days - Aswan / Luxor Every Wednesday
Arrival in Blue Shadow Nile Cruise

Your journey begins in the golden city of Aswan, where the Blue Shadow Nile cruise awaits your arrival. After a smooth embarkation and a gourmet lunch, you will visit the High Dam, a 20th-century engineering marvel that protects Egypt from annual flooding and provides vital hydroelectric power. Next, a motorboat whisks you away to the romantic Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Historically, this temple was moved stone-by-stone to Agilkia Island to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. Finally, explore the Unfinished Obelisk, which remains in its ancient granite bed, offering a rare look at the sheer scale of Pharaonic masonry. Return to the Blue Shadow Nile cruise ship for a multi-course dinner and your first night on the river, surrounded by the southern tranquility that makes this region so unique.

The Great Temples of Abu Simbel and Kom Ombo

This morning aboard your Blue Shadow Nile cruise offers an optional early excursion to the world-famous Abu Simbel Temples. Carved directly into the sandstone cliffs by Ramses II, these colossal structures feature four 20-meter statues of the Pharaoh guarding the entrance. The temple was built with such precision that the sun illuminates the inner sanctum only twice a year. Back on board, we begin sailing north toward Kom Ombo. In the afternoon, you will explore the Kom Ombo Temple, a unique dual-deity structure dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus. This symmetrical temple houses ancient carvings of medical instruments, proving the advanced knowledge of the ancients. As the sun sets, the Blue Shadow Nile cruise sails toward Edfu, offering a serene evening of fine dining and starlit views.

The Sanctuary of Horus and the Pillars of Luxor

Ride a traditional horse-drawn carriage to the Temple of Horus in Edfu during  your Blue Shadow Nile cruise, the most completely preserved cult temple in Egypt. Built during the Ptolemaic era, its massive entrance pylons and intact roof provide a rare sense of the dark, mysterious atmosphere of ancient worship. After returning to the ship for lunch during your Nile cruise River experience, we continue our sail to Luxor. In the late afternoon, you will explore the Karnak Temple Complex, the largest religious building ever constructed, featuring the Great Hypostyle Hall with its 134 towering columns. As evening falls, visit the Luxor Temple, which glows in the golden hour. Historically, this site was once the center of the Opet festival, and walking through its illuminated courtyards is a truly magical experience before retiring to the Blue Shadow Nile cruise.

Royal Tombs of the West Bank and Blue Shadow Nile cruise Farewell

On your final morning aboard your Blue Shadow Nile cruise, you will enjoy breakfast before checking out to explore the legendary West Bank. You will enter the Valley of the Kings, the hidden burial site where New Kingdom pharaohs were laid to rest in intricately painted rock-cut tombs. Your tour continues to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, a stunning terraced structure carved directly into the limestone cliffs of Deir el-Bahari, honoring Egypt's most powerful female ruler. Finally, you will stand before the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues that have guarded the Theban necropolis for millennia. This marks the conclusion of your Blue Shadow Nile cruise experience. After these final discoveries, you will be transferred to the Luxor Airport or railway station, carrying the timeless spirit of the Nile back home with you.

5 Days - Luxor / Aswan Every Saturday
Embarkation in the World’s Greatest Open-Air Museum

Your adventure begins in Luxor, where the crew of the Blue Shadow Nile cruise welcomes you with traditional hospitality. After lunch, you will dive into the history of the East Bank, starting with the Karnak Temple Complex. This vast site covers over 100 hectares and took over 1,500 years to complete; it remains a fact of human devotion and architectural genius. Next, you will explore Luxor Temple, located in the heart of the city. Originally built by Amenhotep III and finished by Ramses II, the temple features colossal statues and a beautiful Avenue of Sphinxes. Return to the Blue Shadow Nile cruise ship for tea time on the sun deck as the sun begins to set over the Nile. This first evening on board sets the stage for a luxurious and culturally rich voyage through the ancient world.

Secrets of the West Bank and Sailing to Esna

Start your day aboard your Blue Shadow Nile cruise with an early breakfast before crossing to the West Bank to visit the Valley of the Kings. Here, you can descend into three royal tombs to witness the vibrant colors and hieroglyphics that have survived for thousands of years. The journey continues to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, an architectural masterpiece that stands in stark contrast to the sheer vertical cliffs behind it. Finally, stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two 18-meter-high statues that are all that remain of the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III. In the afternoon, the Blue Shadow Nile cruise begins sailing south toward Esna. Passing through the Esna Lock is a highlight of the day, offering a fascinating look at modern river engineering before you enjoy a quiet dinner and overnight stay on the water of Nile cruise River.

From the Temple of Horus to the Crocodile God

Your third day on your Blue Shadow Nile cruise focuses on the best-preserved monuments of Upper Egypt. Ride a carriage to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, dedicated to the falcon-headed god of kingship and protection. The temple’s pylon is one of the highest in Egypt, and its inner chambers still contain the Holy of Holies where rituals were once performed. After lunch on board, we sail to Kom Ombo to visit the Temple of Kom Ombo. This rare "Double Temple" is perfectly mirrored, with one half honoring Sobek the crocodile and the other Horus the Elder. You will also visit the Crocodile Mummification Museum, which displays hundreds of mummified reptiles found nearby. The day ends with a festive dinner aboard your Blue Shadow Nile cruise as you continue your journey toward Aswan, experiencing the unmatched comfort of your floating hotel.

Aswan’s Botanical Beauty and Modern Marvels

Today is dedicated to the charm of Aswan during your Blue Shadow Nile cruise . You will visit the High Dam, which created Lake Nasser, and the romantic Temple of Philae. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, this temple’s lakeside setting on Agilkia Island makes it one of the most picturesque sites in the country. You will also see the Unfinished Obelisk, which reveals the incredible techniques used by ancient masons to quarry massive granite blocks. In the afternoon, you can enjoy an optional visit to a Nubian Village, where you can explore colorful mud-brick homes and learn about the local customs and music of the south. This penultimate day perfectly blends monumental history with the living traditions of the Nile Valley, providing a deep and immersive cultural experience before your final night on board of your Blue Shadow Nile cruise.

Farewell to Your Blue Shadow Nile cruise Journey

On your final morning, you will enjoy a last gourmet breakfast on the deck as the sun rises over the golden desert dunes of Aswan. Your five-day Blue Shadow Nile cruise officially concludes with disembarkation. Many guests choose to add an optional early morning excursion to the grand temples of Abu Simbel before their final departure. Whether you are heading to the airport or staying to explore more of Aswan’s vibrant spice markets, you leave with a profound understanding of the ancient world. The refined atmosphere and expert-led tours of the Blue Shadow Nile cruise have provided a truly elite perspective of the river. We wish you safe travels as you depart, carrying the timeless peace and history of the Nile with you.
